LEADING THE WAY
TO 2030
The Road to 2030
The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a call to end poverty, protect the planet and improve live prospects around the globe. While progress is being made, we are not yet advancing at the speed or scale required. With little less than ten years left to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the September 2019 SDG Summit called for a Decade of Action to deliver on our development commitments without leaving anyone behind. The summit also pledged to mobilize financing, enhance national implementation and strengthen institutions to achieve the Goals by the target date: 2030.
SDG 4: Quality Education
International Development Miami's focus on education policy stems from the critical role education plays in enabling upward socioeconomic mobility and helping escape poverty. While in the past decades, access to education and school enrollment rates increased, particularly for girls, around 260 million children were still out of school in 2018. Furthermore, over half of the world's children are not meeting minimum proficiency standards in reading and mathematics.
In 2020, as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, an unprecedented 1.6 billion children were out of school. This disruption of learning will impact all children, especially the most vulnerable and marginalised.
